Physics 576 - Summer II - Silver

Create a new web page for the reports for Summer II 2008.  This time there will be weekly rather than daily reports.  Give at least two paragraphs of information in your weekly report.  Email Dr. B your new URL when it is ready.

July 7, 2008 - Jul 10, 2008
  1.  Describe the construction of your Tesla Turbine in your report for this week.
  2.  Include a link to your CAD drawings and embed and image in your report.
  3.  What problems did you encounter with our design/parts?
  4.  Create a parts list in your report (e.g. from bearing to spacers).
  5.  Describe the results of your air compressor experiment giving psi and rotation rate estimates.

Consider including links to historical web sites or theory involving Tesla Turbines for any of the items (1-5) above.

July 14, 2008 - Jul 17, 2008
  1.  Replace the rubber spacers with paper spacers and report the effects.
  2.  Replace the bearing.
  3.  In your report describe the the recent changes made to the design and give a summary of the machine shop work for this week.

July 21, 2008 - Jul 24, 2008
Finish the plexy-glass housing and summarize the work complete in the machine shop by you this week.

July 28, 2008 - Jul 31, 2008
Describe the testing of the Tesla turbine using the oscilloscope, magnets, coil, and strobe.
Discuss your results give any measurements obtained.

Aug 4, 2008 - Aug 7, 2008
Use the final week to work on the report from beginning to end.
Include an outline (text) of your video commentary that we will film on Wednesday at 3:30pm in your written report for this week.
Remember to user only one URL for your Summer II report as we did for Summer I.
Please a adjust the style to contain dark text on a light background for printing purposed.

The items in green above are based on our conversation from 8/4/2008 at about 1pm.

Notes:
  • I teach AST105 from 10:15am-12:10pm MTWR during Summer 2.
  • I will plan to meet with Eric at 12:15pm MTWR.
  • I will plan to meet with Izzi after his AST105 lab.
  • I will meet with Brian, Nathan, and Alajandro at 1:30pm MTWR.
 Out of Date Plan:
  • 1 week on expanding Summer 1 theory to include mutiple turns and wire thickness
  • 1 week to finalize the Tesla turbine
  • 1 week working with the propeller wind turbine and perhaps mating it to the Tesla turbine
  • 1 week writing simple computer subroutines to find the maximum EMF
  • 1 week with the Humdinger developer kit (if available for order by then)
  • The propeller wind turbine has an interesting coil design. I will probably need you to help me get the turbine off of the tall pole at the observatory some Monday afternoon. It will be an adventure.
